I'm thrilled to be interviewed for this film alongside (existentially speaking) Dolly Parton, Lily Tomlin, and Jane Fonda. Relatedly, I've interviewed them all except Jane (have your people call my people!). I was asked to participate due to my work including this piece I wrote for Rolling Stone.

“Still Working 9 to 5” examines the correlation between what the original film began as – a cultural inflection point, and the subsequent evolution of the women’s movement. We explore the history of the Equal Rights Amendment, harassment in the workplace, pay gap, sexism, and discrimination, and interweave “9 to 5” and it’s various incarnations to debate its evolution over the last 40 years by speaking to writers, feminists and everyday people with their own workplace experiences. As “9 to 5” continues to resonate as a touchstone of classic feminist entertainment and inspiration, “Still Working 9 to 5” brings to life with colorful and comedic observations, why the film is as relevant today as the year it lit up the box office four decades ago.

I was interviewed for this forthcoming documentary because of my extensive research and writing on anti-abortion "crisis pregnancy centers," including the landmark report Designed to Deceive: A Study of the Crisis Prengancy Center Industry in Nine States. I can only do this work because of the support of Women's Law Project, the public interest legal organization where I am currently director of strategic communications.

Where does someone turn when facing an unplanned pregnancy? Preconceived tells the stories of Maleeha and Maria, two women who, while navigating unplanned pregnancies, inadvertently found themselves at facilities discouraging them from abortions. The film is a window into these enigmatic centers that some call “pregnancy resource centers” and others call “fake clinics.” Shedding light on how many of these centers are a part of a movement striving to make abortion unthinkable and illegal, the documentary explores the complex role of deception, finances, faith, and privacy.

Amid a shifting legal landscape, Preconceived underscores the significance of understanding the resources available to pregnant people.
